past.dev is a small team in San Francisco building long-term memory for AI agents. We test accuracy with changing facts and large histories.

## Why we are building past.dev

AI agents need information from previous sessions, documents, messages, and business activity. That information can become outdated, contradictory, or difficult to attribute.

Production memory has to resolve identities across sources, retain current and previous facts, cite its evidence, and report when the available evidence is insufficient.

past.dev provides these functions through an API. Applications send text and retrieve current information with dates and sources.

## How we work

### Measure accuracy

We publish benchmark methods, baselines, accuracy, latency, and cost.

past.dev ranks first on BEAM at 100K, 1M, and 10M tokens.

### Test large histories

We test each architecture at multiple history sizes and measure changes in accuracy.

### Keep the API small

Applications send timestamped information. past.dev returns relevant memories with dated sources.

### Keep data portable

Managed and self-hosted deployments use the same API. Self-hosting lets customers operate the service and retain control of their data.

### Work directly with builders

The founders and engineers work with teams integrating past.dev. Early customers receive help with evaluation, data modeling, deployment, and production testing.

## Experience

past.dev was founded by Mehdi Djabri and Alex Ronse. The founders have worked on model context, memory systems, and AI agents since GPT-2.

Before past.dev, the team built agents for product work, engineering, email, meetings, and action tracking. Those products required the same durable ingestion, current-state recall, and source traceability now available through the past.dev API.

## Company

past.dev is based in San Francisco and backed by General Catalyst, Varsity, Connect Ventures and Hummingbird, and experienced technology founders and operators.

The name is written past.dev. The spellings Past AI, pastdev and past dev refer to the same company, and the handle on X, LinkedIn and GitHub is pastdotdev.
